they were debated between a win for romney and a tie. on the other hand, they said they were disappointed with the president's performance and it cannot believe he made the case for how another four years would be different or better. making the point that neither one of these guys really connected with voters on a personal level but clearly romney did a superior job of debating it. there's no question romney won the debate. the question is how much does that change things? in terms of national polls, there's no question he will get a few points out of this. the harder and more relative points is, number one, does the move ohio? does he moved the swing voters in these swing states? that's what's really relevant here. i have no idea. in my view, you show me an undecided voter in a swing state, say, ohio, and they have been bombarded by ads since june. the undecideds there were a lot smaller than nationally, four or five points. i had concluded that if you are in ohio and you are still undecided, you may never decide. you're probably not g

romney so eloquently said in that debate. talking about politics of the 1% or the 47%, conservatives want the best for all folks, and yes, we mean we don't want them trapped in poverty. we want them married, paying their taxes -- host: we will get katrina vanden heuvel's response. guest: yeah. listen, if marriage will promote the well-being of the couple, children, great. but in my mind, it is and not just that. that is too simplistic. it is part of the equation. without good jobs, without ensuring that workers have rights at a time when big business is so powerful, without doing small things that happened around this country but have taken too much effort, giving women, families early child care, the sense of a community coming together to lift up families, marriage is not sufficient. to reduce it to that is too simplistic. no one is saying marriage isn't important. it is not the only a factor in building a family that is doing well. the fact that jobs to date are low-paying is a terrible problem, and i would link this to th

romney has to have it as part of his coalition. >> he was in wisconsin, just after his first debate appearance. how much enthusiasm is there among the students and among college campuses across ohio? >> he had a large turnout, expecting tomorrow's rally. we saw that in madison, wisconsin. in all reality, the enthusiasm level for the president among younger voters, while they still prefer him, he hasn't picked up young people support, that excitement level is down from where it was four years ago. the obama campaign is worried about it. a major part of that coalition was college campuses like ohio state. they have to get a shot of energy and that is why we see them in ohio. >> you are a native of california. you are singing -- seeing california is not in the mix except the president there raising money. what is it like for you? >> is great to be in a state where you see presidential candidates campaigning. because of the electoral college system, most of the country nowadays, a small number of states that gets virtually all the attention. we are either the beneficiaries or the victims of that d
